Patrick Mahomes’ father faces legal chaeges just a week before Super Bowl
The Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback, have been preparing for their highly-anticipated Super Bowl game against the San Francisco 49ers. Few days ahead of the game, the Chiefs quarterback’s father, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested.
According to multiple reports, the 54-year-old former MLB pitcher is facing a charge of Driving While Intoxicated third time or more. He was reportedly arrested on Saturday night in Tyler, Texas, and booked into the Smith County Jail.
His bond was set at $10,000 and was released from the jail on Sunday afternoon according to online court documents. This is not the first time Mahomes Sr. has been arrested for driving while intoxicated. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to DWI in Texas and was sentenced to 40 days in jail, which he reportedly served on weekends.
Back in 2014, he was also charged with possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle. He only ended up paying a fine for that charge. Now, he is being charged with a third-degree felony. If he gets convicted he is facing a sentence of up to 10 years in jail time according to the Texas state law.
This arrest comes just a few days ahead of his son Patrick Mahomes’ biggest game of the year. Mahomes and the Chiefs are scheduled to go against the 49ers in the Super Bowl game on Sunday, February 11 in Las Vegas.
