French tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou makes prediction about the growing rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
French tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has recently made a prediction about the growing rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz for the upcoming year in one of his YouTube videos.
He said that, seeing the recent form and performances of Jannik Sinner, he is probably going to outperform the Spaniard in 2024 and become World No. 2.
Holger Rune, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner are considered to be the three best players of the new generation. In the first half of 2023, Carlos Alcaraz was running the charts, and in fact, he was the World No. 1 for quite a long period of time.
Unfortunately, after his loss to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal of the 2023 US Open, his form dropped, and the Spaniard failed to perform well in the rest of the season.
Contrarily, Jannik Sinner started to up his game in the later half of the season, especially in the Asian Swing. He won the China Open and the Vienna Open in quick succession and performed phenomenally in the ATP Finals, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the group stage, only to lose against him in the final. Thus, Patrick Mouratoglou opinioned that Jannik Sinner will overshadow Alcaraz in 2024.
I think it can be the year of of Jannik. Of course, Carlos will be right behind him but I think Jannik with what he’s done at the end of 2023 will be 100% ready to perform at the highest level this year is going to be more dangerous much more dangerous. In 2023 it’s true that Carlos was a few steps ahead compared to Jannik because he won a Grand Slam.
As per the former tennis professional himself, while there is a possibility that Alcaraz will beat Sinner on clay as he is far superior on that surface, on all other surfaces, the Italian might emerge at the top. Continuing further, he added:
Maybe on clay, Carlos will beat him but I think on other surfaces also with the style of play that Sinner has playing so fast taking the ball so early taking time away I see him playing better and stronger than Carlos next year.
